The Erasmus Program

SOCRATES/ERASMUS is an exchange program of EU. The main purpose is to make it easier for exchange students to study abroad and to strengthen the cooperation between research institutions.

The new ERASMUS program is a part of EU's unified education program called SOCRATES which was passed in the EU parliament 14 Marts 1998 and was made effective in the academic year 1997/98.

The structure of SOCRATES implies that cooperation and exchange of students will be based on the individual institutions in the future. The participating universities make bilateral SOCRATES agreements which specify the exchange cooperation within a given research area regarding number of students and duration of exchanges. The individual agreements are linked to the institutions that make  them. In general it is only possible to utilize agreements made by ones own home institution.

The Center for Visual Cognition has a SOCRATES agreement with University of Leuven (Géry d'Ydewalle).
